I’ve been a fan of Stuart Turton’s for a long time now, and the first few chapters of this new book did not disappoint. You get so much information in so few pages, and I’m already expecting a twist at the end. Though it’s written in first-person, the narrator is not the main protagonist, and I have a feeling they are an unreliable narrator, as well. But as you read from this perspective you feel like you are somehow invading on the characters’ privacies, like you’re reading thoughts you’re not meant to know. I love this type of writing — it asks so many questions that the audience is eager to have answered. Can’t wait for more!

To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to the cover at first. I just saw the big title without looking at the image beneath it. But I will say, after reading the first few chapters, when I looked back at the artwork I actually thought it fit how I imagined the island would look.
