Beyond the Common Murder Mystery

I like that this book is looking to combine murder with science fiction with dystopia. This is a great way to feed one or all of these genres without getting too deep into just one. I like the premise, but because I have a basic question of how they know the fog killed off the rest of the world, I would need a better explanation quicker in the book.
