I am not normally a fan of fantasy or magic based books, it takes a lot to get me invested. This book had it all though. I was invested in the magic from the very first use. There was a clear magic system that had faults and costs. It wasn't just going to come out of nowhere and save the day.

This book covered topics from medical autonomy to racism to ethics. It was a fascinating read and I couldn't put it down.

Plus, look at that cover. It is so cool and interesting. This is the sort of book that even though I am not big into the genres I would stop and look at, then be shocked when I read the whole book in one sitting.

Overall, wonderful book and I can't wait for the next one to come out. I like knowing that it is a duology up front so I am not trying to manage a book series that is overly long in a not generally for me genre. Yet, this author hooked me so I will probably read more by them.
