First off, I want to talk about the writing. The way this author wrote her descriptions were just so beautiful and full of such talent. The intricacies of the anatomy of the body, and the way she wrote about them, it was... wow. She taught me more than I'll probably ever learn about the structure of the human body in such detail. I gained so much knowledge just by reading this book. The author was serious about the intricacies of the body, and I'm now more fascinated with it than I ever was before.
Next, the characters.
I loved Nhika. Learning of her backstory and seeing how she led her life was heartbreaking, but she is not a pitiful character. She was far more than the things she had experienced and the things she had done. She didn't let the events of her life shape her into a monster, even when she thought she was one, because at her core, Nhika wasn't a villain. She was an amazing protagonist and experiencing this story through her eyes.
Now, on to Kochin. I wasn't quite sure what to make of him at first. He made me so confused. I didn't know his backstory, his thought process, or his motives. I could trust Nhika because I knew her, but I didn't know Kochin. So I alternated between loving him and hating him, wanting to push him away from Nhika, but wanting him to come closer all the same. I settled on loving him though, when I finally got to see who he was as a person in earnest. He was all that I had hoped he'd be and more. I loved him just as much as I loved Nhika, if not more.
I won't say much about Nhika and Kochin's relationship, because I want you to see that for yourself, but it was everything. I expected less, but the author gave me more than what I had even dared to hope for them. Their relationship is not one I will forget so easily. I loved them so much, I'm not sure I could put it into words if I tried, so I'll simply leave it at that.
As for the plot, it captivated me. The story sucked me in, and I could not pull free of it. I was fully immersed, so immersed I could not go to sleep til I finished the book. It was definitely interesting, to say the least.
All in all, I really loved this book. I don't know how I can wait so long for the sequel, but as soon as I get the opportunity to get a copy of it, I will. I can't wait to read the conclusion of this duology, and am glad I had the the honor of receiving this arc copy in the first place.
