I was immediately drawn in by the vivid visual descriptions as well as the characters whose personalities practically leaped off the page. This story is based on a culture I know nothing about but the author has crafted the story in such a way that the important cultural information comes through with being too dull. I have already added this to my "to be read" list and am looking forward to reading the complete story. In just the few pages I was able to read, I have questions about the characters, what has happened to them up to this point in their lives, and exactly how the events of the story will impact their lives going forward. I found the map at the beginning of the First Look extremely helpful as I was building a mental image of the world that the author has created. I'm excited to explore more of this world as well as other work by this same artist.
