"The Last Blood Carver" is a well crafted, compelling story with great world building and Southeast Asian representation. Its unique blend of sci-fi, fantasy, culture, and mystery left me eagerly anticipating what the author has in store next. It's a bit darker and more mature than your average YA read, which adds a lot of depth and interest to the narrative. I really enjoyed reading this one, and couldn't put it down. The plot keeps you engaged with its twists and turns, and as mentioned the world building I thought was fantastic. However, character development did feel just a bit unclear at times. While the protagonists are intriguing, their growth throughout the story can feel somewhat confusing, leaving their motivations and actions occasionally unclear. The greatest con of this book for me was the ending. Despite these minor drawbacks, "The Last Blood Carver" remains a promising debut from the author and I'm excited to see more.
