The magic system is unique and amazing. It's what sold me on the book. It's so medically technical but it's not hard to follow or understand. It does make the book quite gruesome in places, which I liked, but it's for sure not for everyone. The villain's motives where also excellently handled and explained, the author manged to make me feel so bad for them but also want to see them punished which is something I love.
I wasn't a fan of the romance, the forgiveness of the violence committed against each other comes awfully fast. It feels like the characters are pushed together more through circumstance then true chemistry. And it's the same with the found family aspect of it. Honestly while I enjoyed all the characters as individuals I didn't love the chemistry between any of them.
The books ends on a serious cliff hanger and I will absolutely be reading the second book.
