As the author states in her introduction, knitting patterns are like computer codes in that they have their own strict sense of rules and structures. I can relate to this as both an engineer and a first time knitter. I first picked up needles just a short month and a half ago, having felt limited by the projects I could work with a crochet hook. While I am no expert at reading crochet patterns, my abilities there far exceed those of reading knitting patterns, which currently are non existent. This book appears to be the knitter's encyclopedia with definitions, explanations, and diagrams for pretty much every phrase in the knitting lexicon. It seems a handy tool to have for knitters, both new to the knitting scene like me and experienced veterans with 100 sweaters under their belt. Definitely something I will be considering to add to my knitting supplies.
