I really like the excerpt I was allowed to read. My grandmother's name was Helga, but I had the same kind of experience. That woman knew her crafts and could make anything! I knit with my sister often and we learned lace knitting together. I can see where a refresher on reading those patterns would be helpful. My sister passed eight years ago and I don't knit lace as much as I would like. I work on things like blankets and afghans and scarves, but it's not the same kind of challenge and it would be fun to try my hand at it again. I've never done colorwork and that's something I'd like to teach myself, so you can see where a book like this would be handy. I also learned something I never realized by reading this. It never dawned on me that different manufacturers might have different length skeins. I'd always imagined them to be the same thing. That explains a few times I had to find some more yarn! I'm trying to get my granddaughters to knit (they'll try crocheting, but are afraid of knitting for some reason). Maybe one day I can fix that.
