The Kingdoms of Savannah is a gothic, southern contemporary mystery thriller. This book also felt historical in some aspects based on factual real life events. It fits under so many genres that I love. This starts off a Bo Peep's, a bar in town. A man gets murdered and his companion is no where to be found. We follow Morgana Musgrove, a detective. She has four children that she ropes into helping her and they discover some crazy things about power structures in the town. The family dynamics were interesting this book as her children don't trust her. Two of her family live on the other side of society with the homeless. It's jarring seeing the difference in economic status, wealthy vs poverty. We get a look at both her past and present. My favorite character was Morgana's granddaughter Jaq. Jaq is very determined and after the rales of rumored treasure on an island. I liked seeing how it all connected.
