The book starts with the contrast between what tourists see of Savannah (ghost tours) and what is the reality of living there. The plot revolves around secrets that have been carried from generation to generation and the greed that makes people want to protect those secrets. Morgana, the head of the Musgrove family is a strong character and while I did not like her, I admired her ability to use her family and her connections to ferret out the truth. This is not a fast-paced book. However, it does convey a strong sense of place. I could almost feel the heat and humidity as the characters moved around the city. I appreciated the author’s notes on the historical and current day facts that inspired the story. The information about the homeless encampments around Savannah was particularly interesting. Thank you to Celadon Books for providing an advance reading copy.
