The Kingdoms of Savannah was one of my most anticipated summer reads. Unfortunately, it was also a DNF (did not finish) for me.

I love atmospheric reads, but this one drenched me in flowery language to the point where I couldn’t see through the metaphoric fog. The writing seemed solely focused on atmosphere and setting at the expense of everything else. Honestly, I found the experience exhausting.

Where was the plot? I'm sure it's there, buried within the tour of Savannah and it's history, but I couldn’t find it.

The characters are vast and sort of float on by without landing anywhere specific. I didn’t care about them because they never felt real.

I quit about 120 pages in.

I do love the cover, so that’s a plus.

I have no doubt that many readers will love this one, so if you're intrigued by the premise, don't let my displeasure dissuade you.
