As a whole, the excerpt from The Kingdoms of Savannah was okay, but didn't necessarily feel as intriguing as I was hoping. Perhaps the books builds suspense more slowly. I didn't really feel connected to the characters, but again, that could be something that needs to develop throughout the course of the book. The writing was mostly enjoyable, but nothing that really grabbed my attention. Sadly, the author's note was the most interesting part of the excerpt.
