I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this book but ended up really enjoying it. It was our choice for a buddy read in one of my book clubs and was fun to discuss with other people.

The characters were really interesting to follow and the setting, while at first rather ordinary, eventually became so interesting itself as well. And I felt the same about the characters. I think I’d like to read more books where we know something about someone previously, like Mozart here, but the story actually focuses on someone else, like the sister here.

I was hanging on to the pages from the start but once the fantastical elements became more prominent, I was just so smitten.

If you’re a fan of fairytales and magical realism, this could be a great choice of book for you. I also really like the overall presentation of the book with a nice cover that isn’t bright and overwhelming but has an understated beauty to it that goes well with the story.
