The Kingdom of Back was a spectacular piece of fiction that left me wanting more from this world. Even with the exception of this being a new avenue of writing for Marie Lu, I was still in awe of what the she could do in story, especially with the main characters’. The siblings were created yet I enjoyed the newfound appreciation for Nannerl and what may have been closer to the truth of our reality. While this may have been Lu’s first attempt at historical fiction, it did not seem like it because it was wonderful to read and enjoy. Music in writing is exceptional to anyone who loves to listen to music and the prose with which Lu expresses herself in is top tier. Learning that this was actually Marie Lu’s first book she’d written yet it hadn’t come to fruition for more than a decade is inspiring for young writers and gives credence to her craft as an established writer to publish what she wants.
