This was NOT at all what I was expecting. I knew that it was a fantasy woven into a historical fiction context, and I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The fantasy world was well developed, beautifully depicted and I felt like I could see it in my mind's eye.

This is the first book of Marie Lu's that I have ever read and I was not disappointed. Lu's writing is as lyrical as Mozart's music, both Mozarts! I was genuinely surprised and was glad that this book lived up to the hype of the Marie Lu name! The characters were well developed and although I could see the plot twist coming, I feel that the clues she gave us really helped the reader. Even though I knew what the twist would be, I was still surprised since I was hoping I'd be wrong!

One thing that I do wish I had more of in this book, though, was the historical context. It left me wanting to read more about Nannerl, but I loved Lu's spin on her story!
