Just not for me.
"'Everyone is forgotten, mein Liebling. Except the kings and queens.'
And the talented, I added in silence. Only the worthy are made immortal."
The book cover was the initial thing that caught my eye, followed shortly by the author and the synopsis. Being a fan of Marie Lu's other works, I wanted to give this forgotten sibling a try.
Unfortunately, I'm just not as into The Kingdom of Back as I am her other books. The confusing intro probably started me off on the wrong foot -- I don't understand anything it's saying about the sister who composed beside him and feel like it's a bunch of poetic non-sense to try to give it an air of mystery. I would have rather not had the intro at all.
That being said, I wasn't able to connect to Nannerl and her relationship with her brother. I wasn't invested in her pain at being passed over and I didn't feel the disappointment she had that she would never be remembered for her brilliance.
It's not that the book is badly written; quite the contrary. I think it's as simple as I'm just not made for this one.
