I was very pleasantly surprised with this preview. While fantasy is not a genre I typically like to read, I decided to read this preview because I do enjoy historical fiction, and I LOVE music.

I was immediately captured by how beautifully the author describes things in her writing. I love how she describes the characters... Mozart is the "flash of stardust," and Nannerl is "not the stardust but the steady wick, the one who burns low and quiet. You do not see her by the way she lights up the sky but by the way she steadies herself against the darkness." I also loved how she referred to Nannerl's music in a way that reflects her character - "Her music is the ghost in the air. You know it because it reminds you of something you cannot quite grasp."

And then there was the first line of the first chapter... "Sometimes, a day comes along that seems possessed by a certain shade of magic." This is the line that convinced me that I absolutely have to read this book. It perfectly captures the feeling of excitement and anticipation when you just know you're about to experience something memorable. I'm dying to know the rest of the story... what happens to the Mozart family once Woferl's talents are discovered? (I'm not really too familiar with Mozart's life so it's all new to me!)... how does Nannerl help the princeling get his throne? And if nothing else, I just want to read more of the author's beautiful descriptions of music and dreams and people!

P.S. The cover art is GORGEOUS.
