Not what I expected
I was excited to read this book because of the author, beautiful cover and mix of historical and fantasy elements. The writing was rich and created a feeling of a fairy tale. I appreciate the author telling Nannerl's forgotten story. I have loved Marie Lu's other books.
I don't know why this book was not for me. I did not care for the characters and the story seemed bland. I kept waiting for something more exciting or thrilling to happen. I also felt like the jump into the fantasy world was way beyond believable--Some other similar "fairy tale-like" stories with a jump like this somehow weave together well. It felt too forced somehow.
