The Janes, a follow-up to Louisa Luna's Two Girls Down novel, does not disappoint. Like it's predecessor, the novel features the dynamic partnership of Alica Vega and her partner Cap.

The story begins when the bodies of two young Jane Does are found on the outskirts of San Diego with no names, no IDs and no family. Suspecting a human trafficking ring, the police bring in Alice Vega - and her trusty sidekick Cap.

This novel had so many relevant and timely themes such as illegal immigration, border tensions and human trafficking. It felt like it could be something ripped from one of the headlines.

What completely fuels this crime story though is the relationship between Vega and Cap. They are completely a force to be reckoned with and complement each other so well throughout the novel. First of all, Vega is a dynamo who is absolutely brilliant; and Cap is so lovable and real that the partnership just works.

I can't wait to read the next installment - I hope there are many more stories featuring our friends Cap and Vega.
