In The Janes, PI Alice Vega returns to solve a murder case with two victims whose identities cannot be determined. She calls in Max Caplan to partner with her on the investigation.

First off, Alice Vega is badass and it’s a pleasure to walk with her as she pulls leads out of nowhere.

Second, as you’d expect reading a whodunit, the case has many twists and turns. It reveals a child sex trafficking ring which rightly makes Vega and Caplan furious and determined to put a stop to the abuse. Powerful men want to keep the ring going so the pair are in danger and have to escape against the odds to continue their investigation.

This book is difficult in parts—child sex rings and child abuse are not light reading. It’s quite violent. It touches on immigration and immigrant rights. While it’s a powerful story that I loved, it is difficult to read in many parts.
