When I heard that Louisa Luna had written a second story about Alice Vega, I had to get a copy as soon as I could. I started reading it just as soon as I received it. I am very happy.
I like Alice Vega. She doesn't suffer fools and she not afraid to get in their faces when they bother her. She locates missing people, most especially children. She doesn't spend a lot of time in social media or databases. She finds those she's looking for by listening and watching the people around the missing.
The police have found two bodies, the Janes in the title. The only thing connecting the girls, both just teens, is a IUD. Both girls should have had no need for these devices, leading the police to suspect these girls are being trafficked. They hire Alice to find out where the girls came from and if there are any more. Alice does that in short order, only to find that is only the tip of the trouble. There are bad cops, cartel members, dealings and double dealings, blackmail and all sorts of criminal behavior.
Alice has a partner, Max Caplan. He is retired police and Alice mostly uses him to block other police and as a sounding board. Other than keeping her on a mostly level path, Cap doesn't do much. These books are all Alice and I like that.
