Riveting crime novel, just not for me

The first chapter - told third person but focusing on "our girl" who is one of the Janes, was riveting. The second chapter, where we meet Vega at the morgue, also held my interest. But after that my attention wandered...clearly I'm missing out on being invested in these characters introduced in the previous novel - maybe readers who read that are at an advantage? It has the makings of a great crime novel, but it's not for me.
