I was looking forward to seeing what this author came out with after House of Hollow, which is a book I really enjoyed. While The Invocations is nothing like that book, it was still a really great read in its own way!

I thought the magic system in the book--where only women can make deals with demons--was really intriguing. I loved how this witchy book explored womanhood and female rage, and toxic masculinity and misogyny. It was also unapologetically queer, which was great! The body horror described in this book also grossed me out, but in a good way.

In terms of things I thought could be a bit better: I wished the characters were fleshed out a bit more (they fell a bit flat at times), and it took me a bit longer than I would've liked to really get into the story. But other than that, I think it was solid read. (I think I'd officially give it 3.5 stars, but I rounded up.)
