"What other choice did she have but to give her demons hell?"

The best part of this book is that every young girl is either an Emer, a Zara, or a Jude. Whether it is someone trying to fly under the radar, someone willing to sacrifice themselves for their loved ones, or someone hoping to battle their own demons, there is bound to be someone to relate to. For a world with such fantastical worldbuilding, yet still set within the 2020s post-COVID environment, it is nice to have relatability.

Of the three main characters, I am particularly drawn to Jude. As a fifteen year old interested in the occult (who wasn't), she accidentally cursed herself with not one but THREE demons feeding off of her. The details are grim, but it brings up a side of chronic demonic possession not often explored: the deeply human toll. All she wants is to be human again, which is relatable to young girls battling their own personal demons.

The jury is still out for me on how I feel about a London that is post-COVID yet crawling with demons. Some of the references feel a little too topical, if that makes sense? (though I love Succession). It distracts from the story a bit, but maybe it gets better further in. Either way, I want to keep reading and see the meeting of these three dynamic, powerful girls.
