I found all three main characters, Jude, Zara and Emer to be very compelling in very different ways. I really enjoyed how the author changes the way she writes based on who's perspective she is writing in; it is subtle but it really helps pull me into the world. I also loved the dark, mysterious, slightly gross tone that is given to Magic. I found it refreshing to give magic a grimy undertone instead of the usually pretty and whimsical types of magic I normally read about.

I can't wait to find out more about Zara specifically; something about her standoffish nature and desperation to bring her sister back, coupled with her (possibly abusive/toxic) living situation is just so compelling. I also find her to be a little unlikeable, which I actually enjoy in the setting and tone of the book.
