This was a solid debut that begins with a mysterious and intriguing beginning. Benjamin explores many relevant and interesting themes about family, love, and most importantly, what would you do if you knew the date you were going to die. The novel progresses through each of the children as they grow up and approach the date given to them by the gypsy. You are left wondering if she really had this knowledge or whether each person is just living out a self-fulfilling prophecy. I loved the structure of the book as it moved chronologically through time. It provided a sense of impending doom, and pulled together disparate and seemingly unrelated threads as you learned of the fate and lives of each of the kids.
