What would you do if you were to learn the exact date of your death? How would it affect your life and your decisions and the choices you make? That idea is the underlying premise of this novel. “The Immortalists” is the story of four siblings (two boys and two girls) who visit a gypsy fortune teller when they are children. They believe that she can look into the future and after visiting with her, she predicts the exact date of death for each child — some living longer and others not. This knowledge greatly impacts each one of them as they live their lives. The author develops very complex characters, each with their own shortcomings and insecurities. I was completely absorbed by this tale from the beginning. This is sure to be a favorite with book clubs and will likely generate a lot of lively discussions.
