An intriguing idea- a group of siblings, ages 7-13 are told by a psychic when they will die. How does this effect their lives? How much stock should they set in what she has revealed? The opening chapter drew me in, as I loved the lower east side of NY setting. This sets the atmosphere to what seemed to me almost like magical realism.

Fast forward a few years to 1978, and we see character Simon in physics class, while we also read that his father Saul has just died. This gives another opportunity for the children to gather and discuss their fate. Although the preview of this book gives us the prologue and first chapter, it appears that each of the four siblings will be given their own chapters to reflect each story.

The premise of The Immortalists would make this a great discussion book for book groups. I cannot wait to read the rest of this novel.
