I loved this book. Even though, I didn't get to read the book this sample was enough to whet my appetite to want to read more.
It's the summer of 1969, and four Jewish siblings, ages 13 and younger, are bored. When the youngest, Simon, overhears a conversation about a psychic living nearby who can predict the future. The two oldest siblings, Vayra and Daniel, are against it, but Klara and Simon really want to see her. So everyone agrees to go see her. Vayra knows it's against their religion but it can't hurt to go. The seer meets with each sibling alone. When it's Vayra's turn, the seer starts to tell her things that Vayra had never told anyone before and she starts to feel a little better. But when she tells her that exact day that she will die, Vayra freaks out and leaves the room. After the meeting the four of them don't say a word about their private visit with the seer.
