For half of this I was enamored. The opening totally sucked me in and there is one section for each of the four siblings: Simon, Klaus, Daniel, and Varya. I loved two of the four sections, but found they didn’t all tie together as well as they should have. There were too many unanswered questions. The author poses some philosophical questions but never attempts to answer them. There was also a sort of magical realism element about them finding out the date of their death/fate/choice, but even that wasn’t explored. If I’d felt satisfied by all the characters and their lives maybe I wouldn’t have wanted some answers to those questions.

Overall this was more of a character based book, but I was left a bit unsatisfied.
