It's only a few days into the new year, but The Immortalists is already in the running as one of my favorite books of 2018. The story is a well-written portrayal of a family struggling with both with death and how to live their lives. The characters evoked both sympathy and frustration with the way they chose to live their lives based upon the awareness of the date of their deaths. I thought that each of the siblings was rather selfish in either pursuing a reckless path or in not sharing themselves with a partner, but I couldn't wait to see what would happen in their lives. Chloe Benjamin has also given us a look into the several social issues, including the AIDS epidemic, animal rights and the war in Afghanistan through the eyes of this family.
