New York 1969- Four siblings, seek out a fortune teller who is rumored to be able to tell your future, bad or good, as well as the date you will die. Upon hearing each of their fates, each chooses to believe or doubt their destiny which alters their paths in life. Simon, the youngest runs away to San Francisco abandoning his family responsibilities in search of love and sexual freedom. Klara pursues her dreams of performing magic and transformation as "The Immoralists", Daniel goes becomes a medical doctor for the Army, responsible for sending men off to war, and Varya immerses herself in longevity research in hopes of finding the key to extend human life expectancy.

This was a really beautiful and heartfelt novel exploring four individuals’ paths as they explore life from the late 70's through 2010. This novel does contain some graphic sexuality and the LGBT culture in San Francisco. The novel is broken into different parts to tell the story of each individual and how their choices influenced the other family members. It explores the significance of the decisions we make, what we choose to believe, and how we live. I really enjoyed this novel and would definitely recommend adding it to you TBR list.
