Such a refreshing read!
I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of The High Season through bookishfirst. I thought it would be the perfect summer read and Judy Blundell didn’t disappoint. Her characters were wonderful and she created a wonderful community of characters around The Orient. Ruthie is the central character and she goes through so many challenges during the story. Her (almost) ex-husband ends up falling head over heels in love with their summer tenant Adeline. Adeline is a New York socialite who has an out of control stepson Lucas. Lucas is immediately taken by a few of the ladies in Ruthie's circle including her daughter Jem. Ruthie ends up losing her job and nearly her identity in the process. A huge freak accident involving Lucas, Jem and Doe bring the story to an unexpected climax. The story ends in a neat little bow with almost everyone growing and coming to terms of their new life on The Orient. Wonderful summer read!
