Seems basic and beachy, but early twist.

I've read so many beach-themed beach books over the years, they start to run together. The High Season starts typically, in the beginning of summer, in Long Island. The core family of mom, dad, and teen daughter, also seem typical, but there are early hints there is much more to them. Introduced soon is a socialite from Manhattan, who I already worry is going to stir the pot. She is quickly painted as shallow and somewhat demeaning.

The author is is only lightly descriptive of the setting, which is not typical for beach books, and perhaps she feels the readers know the real towns of Long Island. I do enjoy enough description that I can formulate my own version of the setting, but thus far, I am not getting that from this book. Nevertheless, anything set in surf and sand is worth exploring more.
