Plots and More Plots

I put this book in the category of an OK summer read with some page turning twists and turns. The main plot is universal - stale marriage - oh look! here comes a rich, older, attractive woman and there is a vulnerable, struggling, attractive, younger man.
Although every book needs a strong main plot and interesting sub-plots, I found the excessive number of sub-plots a little disconcerting. The conflict between the fortunate and the not so entitled, the teen age angst, the forming of alliances for personal gain, soon became wearing.
When Ruthie first discovered and wore the watch, I noted and liked that brief bit of rather obvious foreshadowing. By the time the watch was finally with its' rightful owner, I was weary with all of it.
This book will keep the reader engaged for a few hours, and maybe that is what summer reads are all about.
