I would call this a good read on a summer day when you just want to trip out. Some great descriptions of life in the Hamptons and the whole summer at the beach scene. But I had a hard time following the abundance of characters and plots. I never really connected with most of them. I had empathy for Jem, the daughter, and her struggle with not being wealthy like all of her friends and having to deal with vacating her home every summer. The concept of renting out the home each summer in order to afford the home the rest of the year was an interesting one and didn't help endear me to Ruthie. Lots of struggling for identity with several of the characters and some heart wrenching scenes. Not sure I'd recommend the book to a friend. But I will probably pass it on to a friend
