If you want a light summer read, go no further! This story has substance and moves at a slow, yet steady pace. My guess is that as the novel ventures further along, the more interesting the plot becomes.

Ruthie, the main character, is the most relatable. If any reader is a middle-aged woman with a teen daughter, then you can definitely relate in a way that few characters can. The author, Judy Blundell, did a great job of combining strength and unease in Ruthie. She is not a “quirky” character nor is she a domineering one either. She is a strong, self-assured woman in certain situations and does embarrassing things in others. In other words, Ruthie is real!

I think this novel gets more fun as it goes along. It is one that I would like to continue to read to see just what happens to Ruthie.

Book Cover
While it fits the theme perfectly, I find it boring. If the house is such a strong theme, then that could be on the cover. Of a downstairs/upstairs type of cover would fit as well.
