In such a short blurb, The High Season seems like it has the potential to be a truly emotionally impactful story. Judy Blundell possesses that talent some authors have in spades to be able to quickly draw you in, invest you in her characters and make you want to know more in mere paragraphs. Ruthie is experiencing a lot of upheaval in her life, giving up the foundation of her life, her home, every summer to ensure she can afford to stay there the rest of the year with her daughter, and the man that she’s married to. Saying “it’s complicated” about that marriage would be putting it mildly. The story packed a lot of punch in 18 pages so I’m looking forward to seeing where this tale is going.
