I was not all that interested just from the cover. It honestly reminded me of a Disney Channel show, and so did the writing style. It felt very, very young in a bad way. Part of it was probably the fact the author has to explain this world to us, so it is very much just telling us "facts." It was a genre I don't ever read, and writing that didn't make me want to change that.
