With the First Looks, I love having a chance to try genres that are outside my typical reading habits. Reading widely is helpful so I always have a range of titles to recommend to students and friends who don't share my reading tastes. I had high hopes that The Hermes Protocol would be such a book. However, this futuristic sci-fi novel is not only outside my reading preferences, it's not one that I can confidently recommend to students, as the opening pages have too much adult content. I'm sure there is an audience for this book, but unfortunately it isn't me!
