I appreciate the scene setting of the first chapter. It creates this visual of a fantasy world. I love the fact that the main character is a strong willed individual that has a little sarcasm. I believe this is relatable to YA readers -- individuals who can be independent and fierce. It is also appreciated to introduce characters with "they" pronouns.
