Danielle Vega's The Merciless series is a series that I had taken on and off my to-read shelf about five times. I love paranormal books oh so much, but I am and forever shall be a huge wuss when it comes to horror. Despite my hesitancy to read any and all horror, this cover immediately drew me in and I had no choice but to read it.
While not ridiculously scary, this book is a bit creepy and suspenseful at times. I wasn't crazy about the major and minor characters, but I really liked the main character, Hendricks, and found her to be a pretty realistic portrayal of a teenage girl. The romance wasn't great, but as someone who mostly reads adult romances, it's not unsurprising that I wouldn't love YA romance. I know quite a few reviewers had disliked the ending, and I do sort of agree, but I liked the first 90% of the book enough to make up for that fact. I'm not really sure how to talk about the main plot of the book without being all spoilery, but it was quick, weird, and fun, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a young adult read.
