Danielle Vega has quickly established herself as a worthwhile competitor to not only familiar horror-masters like Stephen King, but also to psychological suspense masters like Iain Reid and Gillian Flynn. While there may be many who will look at the teen genre of books as vastly deficient to adult tales, Vega has done much with her Merciless series alone to call that into question.

Here, Vega has once again been extremely effective as being able to write characters that not only appear authentic to teen eyes, but also, not coddling her material in such a way as to limit her overall appeal. Much as Grady Hendrix, though more humorously, have been able tell stories without giving away the boogeyman too quickly, so too does Vega take her time in setting up the dread that eventually envelops our characters into a fog of constant apprehension.

Well-paced and certainly a wonderful addition to her growing permanence as one of the greats in modern horror.
