I always enjoy a good ghost story and The Haunted drew me in with the ghosts and the mysterious ex-boyfriend. Overall the book was enjoyable and I read it extremely quickly. Unfortunately, the characters were rather lacking in my opinion. The side characters (except Eddie) had no personality or purpose other than supporting the main character. Even Hendricks herself was not exempt from this. Other than the ex-boyfriend she has no personality traits of her own to speak of. This definitely made the book less immersive. However, the ending changed my overall opinion and bumped up the rating. Throughout the book, I was on the fence about whether I would pick up the next book. The last 50 pages went from 0 to 100 extremely quickly and it has hooked me into the story as I need to know what happens next. I would recommend this book for those who like ghosts and simple horror stories.
