I am a huge fan of Stephen King, so I was eager to try this novel because of the promise made that it is YA's answer to the King of Horror. Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting past the writing style, with its choppy sentence structure. In an attempt to make sure that the reader understood how the main character was feeling, the author spent too much time telling and not enough time showing the action. If I saw The Haunted in the bookstore or library, I would be hesitant to pick it up. I did like the cover art, as it is suitably creepy.
