The Haunted reads like a mash-up between a horror story and a teenage drama. The first impression gives the impression that Hendricks, a teenage girl, had a really bad experience with an ex-boyfriend, and her parents decided to get her away from the situation by moving. Into a creepy, possessed house where a little girl was murdered. Sounds like a great solution, right? The synopsis says Hendricks decides to start fighting, and I think that transition would make the book more interesting. Right now, Hendricks is freaking out and that combined with teenage drama makes it a slow start for someone who isn't historically a huge fan of horror novels.
