Let me start with I did the whole DNA thing with Ancestry to find a family member. I didn't find her through DNA, I did find her though. Although she doesn't want contact at this moment, I would have loved to sit down with her and hear her story.
Now that being said what a drama!! Kate thinking her dad walked on water where Lauren thought he was the bad guy. Their perspectives on about both parents were way off. The to have Jess show up and stir the pot.
DNA doesn't lie as we saw in this book. The girls Kate and Lauren were warned not to get mixed up into things with Jess, they wouldn't like the outcome. What happens, they stuck their nose where it didn't belong. Yet, by doing so they solved a cold case. Sad how that all worked out.
Their mom seemed to try and make sure the girls didn't ruin their lives at a young age. That kind of backfired for Lauren, as you see in the book she had a secret that Kate didn't know about. Kate, when she found out about the secret, she truly though Jess was part of it. Not true, again DNA doesn't lie. Their mom found this out the hard way.
