One of my favorite first lines ever is Tolstoy’s in Anna Karenina. The sample of The Half Sister hits all the notes that fascinate most of us of families (and the loyalty camps therein), marriages (bad and good), siblings (and their rivalries), and parenthood (the longing for and the trials of). This novel promises to address these issues and no doubt more.
