I have mixed feelings about this excerpt. The opening scene is emotional and well written, and the premise is intriguing. But I found it difficult to like or connect with any of the characters. Also, the scene where Jess makes her entrance didn't feel believable. Everyone's reaction is immediately and highly dramatic, and totally lacking in any normal human curiosity. I think this story will be perfect for readers who love domestic drama.
